چکیده
Thermotolerant Campylobacters Campylobacter jejuni and C. coli are recognized as important agents of acute diarrheal illness in h u m a n s 1 4 3 1 . These microorganisms are widely distributed all over the world having as natural reservoirs a great variety of animal species including c o m p a n i o n , domes t i c and wild animals'. ». 1 3 . 2 4 . Human illness considered as zoonosis 3 0 can be acquired by contact with animals 9 2 °. 3 0 , by dr inking con tamina ted water with an imal faeces22 7 . 3 6 or by ingestion of contaminated food of animal or ig in 2 . 2 0 . In view of the lack of information about the natural distr ibution of the rmoto le ran t Campylobacters in this region of the world, a study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of C. jejuni and C. coli in different mammals and birds from sou the rn Chile (province of Valdivia), southern latitude 39° 15' 40°15' .

Campylobacter intestinal carriage among stray and pet dogs.
The natural distribution of thermotolerant Campylobacter sp. in dogs (150 stray animals and 64 pets) was studied. Campylobacters were more frequently isolated (p < 0.01) from stray dogs (51.3%) rather than from pet dogs (21.9%). All the biotypes described by Lior for C. jejuni and C. coli were found among stray animals, whereas only C. jejuni biotypes I and II and C. coli biotype II were found ...

Background: The thermotolerant species of Campylobacter, mainly C. jejuni and C. coli, are as important agents of human gastroenteritis worldwide, being a serious public health problem. They are widely distributed in the environment and the animal kingdom having as reservoirs a wide variety of animals, including dogs, which in turn can act as a source of infection for humans. The Campylobacter ...
متن کاملDivergent Distribution of the Sensor Kinase CosS in Non-Thermotolerant Campylobacter Species and Its Functional Incompatibility with the Response Regulator CosR of Campylobacter jejuni
Two-component signal transduction systems are commonly composed of a sensor histidine kinase and a cognate response regulator, modulating gene expression in response to environmental changes through a phosphorylation-dependent process. CosR is an OmpR-type response regulator essential for the viability of Campylobacter jejuni, a major foodborne pathogenic species causing human gastroenteritis. ...
متن کاملDiversity of Campylobacter isolates from three activated sludge systems.
Thermophilic campylobacters were isolated from three sewage plants in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil and identified. Laboratory analysis of 390 sewage samples showed the presence of 169 thermophilic strains. The results demonstrated that human and animal pathogenic biotypes could be isolated from activated sludge during the initial processing steps. The aeration tank could be considered a barrier t...
متن کاملQuantification of thermotolerant Campylobacter in Swiss water treatment plants, by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
A total of 49 wastewater samples from 23 different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) were analyzed using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction for the presence and quantity of thermotolerant campylobacters. Thermotolerant campylobacters were detected in 87.5% (21/24) and 64% (16/25) of untreated and treated wastewater samples, respectively. Their concentration was sufficiently high...
